چکیده

The evolution of globular clusters driven by two-body relaxation is investigated by means of numerical integration of the two-dimensional Fokker-Planck equation in energy–angular momentum space. The twodimensional Fokker-Planck equation allows the development of velocity anisotropy. We include a spectrum of stellar masses in this paper. The radial anisotropy develops, that is, the radial velocity dispersion exceeds the tangential one, in the outer halo of multi-mass clusters as in single-mass clusters. However, the evolution of the velocity anisotropy depends significantly on the stellar mass in some cases. In fact the tangential velocity dispersion becomes dominant around the half-mass radius for massive components in clusters with a steep mass function. The development of this tangential anisotropy is closely related to the initial cooling of the massive components toward energy equipartition. Our simulation results indicate that multi-mass anisotropic King-Michie models are not always appropriate for describing the velocity anisotropy in globular clusters.

Fokker-Planck Models of Star Clusters with Anisotropic Velocity Distributions II. Post-Collapse Evolution

The evolution of spherical single-mass star clusters driven by two-body relaxation was followed beyond core collapse by numerically solving the orbit-averaged Fokker-Planck equation in energy–angular momentum space. The heating effect by three-body binaries was incorporated in the Fokker-Planck models. The development of velocity anisotropy after the core collapse is discussed in detail. The an...

The Evolution of Globular Clusters in the Galaxy

We investigate the evolution of globular clusters using N -body calculations and anisotropic Fokker-Planck calculations. The models include a mass spectrum, mass loss due to stellar evolution, and the tidal field of the parent galaxy. Recent N -body calculations have revealed a serious discrepancy between the results of N -body calculations and isotropic Fokker-Planck calculations. The main rea...

Anisotropic gaseous models of tidally limited star clusters – comparison with other methods

We present new models of the evolution and dissolution of star clusters evolving under the combined influence of internal relaxation and external tidal fields, using the anisotropic gaseous model based on the Fokker-Planck approximation, and a new escaper loss cone model. This model borrows ideas from loss cones of stellar distributions near massive black holes, and describes physical processes...

Evolution of Multi-mass Globular Clusters in Galactic Tidal Field with the Effects of Velocity Anisotropy

We study the evolution of globular clusters with mass spectra under the influence of the steady Galactic tidal field, including the effects of velocity anisotropy. Similar to single-mass models, velocity anisotropy develops as the cluster evolves, but the degree of anisotropy is much smaller than isolated clusters. Except for very early epochs of the cluster evolution, nearly all mass component...
